As the UK moves into a second lockdown there will be a lot of parents across the country wondering how they will keep the kids entertained.
This time round will be slightly different as schools are currently remaining open, but it’s the weekends and evenings which could become very long, especially as the nights draw in and the days get colder.
Here are a few ideas on how you can keep the kids entertained over the next month.
Take advantage of the nice days
Winter isn’t all doom and gloom. If there is a day where the sun is shining and there is no rain in the air, take the opportunity to take the kids out for a walk. You can either do this around where you live or you can travel to somewhere locally, just make sure you follow the government guidelines.
Whilst you are on that walk, why not collect some leaves, sticks and stones that you can use for arts and crafts. You can find some lovely ideas from the National Trust here.
Make use of technology
If you usually go to see your family for a Sunday roast, why not continue to do that but over Zoom or Skype. Unfortunately, each household will have to make their own dinner, but you can still socialise with each other whilst eating - just not in the traditional format!
If your child enjoys having play dates with their friends at the weekend or after school, why not hold them over Zoom as well, they’ll be able to chat and play but it will just be virtually instead of in person.
Virtual Classes
Unfortunately, during lockdown all grassroots sports and indoor activities have been cancelled. If your child has gotten used to their usual routine of attending these sessions, you can always bring it online instead. Depending on the classes your child attends, some clubs will be moving them online so there will still be something for your child to do.
If they aren’t, Joe Wicks is restarting his PE sessions, but renaming them as #wakeupwithJoe sessions which can be viewed on his YouTube channel at any time, so why not start your weekend mornings with a HIIT session. Alternatively, if you need some inspiration why not check out our YouTube channel which has lots of videos you can do at home!
If you start to feel overwhelmed during lockdown, remember you’re not alone. Everyone is in the same boat at the moment and if you feel that you need help and support, don’t hesitate to call a friend or family member. If you’re struggling with your mental health during this time, there are a lot of tips online to help you cope with the situation.
