We know what it’s like – your child’s buzzing about the prospect of all the Barracudas summer camp activities while you’re worrying about getting organised.
But there’s no need to fret. Getting set for a school holiday camp is very much like getting ready for the school day, minus the calculators and pencil cases! Our outdoor summer activities and indoor pursuits don't require tonnes of paraphernalia, just some key items.
One key thing to mention is that all children need to have a completed Essential Information form to join us for a fun time at camp. The great news is that these forms are now paperless and you now just need to complete the form online. Just go into your booking and fill in the details and save the form by the Sunday before the week they're coming to camp and they'll be good to go!
So here’s our short guide to the essentials for children attending Barracudas activity day camps…
First, what not to bring – money. There is literally nothing to spend it on and your child won’t need the bus fare as they’ll not be going home unless they’re in the company of a responsible adult.
And they won’t be need any toys, iPads, iPods, tablets, or specialist sports gear. We’ve got everything they’ll need to keep them active and engaged at our summer camps.
Here’s our simple check list for preparing for the first day of Barracudas Summer Camp…
Obviously, outdoor summer activities are at the core of what we do, so your child will need appropriate clothing. Make sure they’re comfortable and wearing closed-toe shoes. And if it looks like rain, pack a waterproof.
The over-sevens get the chance to do summer camp activities such as archery, motor sports and fencing and they’ll need long-sleeved tops for those days, as well as trousers and ankle socks.
And it may seem obvious, but a swimsuit and towel are essential for trips to the pool or outdoor water activities. An additional t-shirt is also useful to have to protect them from the sun during outdoor water sessions.
We're looking forward to a beautiful, sunny summer so pack a cap to keep them protected whilst they're making the most of it!
Whilst we’re on the subject of clothes, please make sure they are clearly labelled, so we can reunite any misplaced items with their owners. Also, we strongly suggest they don’t come in their Sunday best… whilst they’re having fun, the kids aren’t going to be keeping neat and tidy!
Talking of the sun, make sure there is sunscreen in their bag. Be certain to coat them in it before you drop them off and show them how to do it themselves. A spray bottle is best for the younger ones to minimise wastage and spillages. We’ll be reminding them to top up throughout the day as outdoor summer activities mean lots of sunshine … hopefully!
Aside from that, the only thing they’ll need every day at our school holiday camps is a tasty and nutritious packed lunch and a snack. Pack it in a cool bag, or include frozen yoghurts or something similar, as there’s no access to fridges at our summer camps. Remember to include a drink and/or refillable water bottle, too.
We have a full day of adventure at camp, so make sure they’ve got plenty to eat – they’ll really work up an appetite! We also have a morning break and an afternoon break at camp, so pop in some tasty healthy snacks to keep them well-fuelled throughout the day.
The final thing the kids should bring to Barracudas activity day camps is lots of anticipation. There'll be a whole host of exciting things for them to do and lots of new experiences ahead, they’ll have a great time with their new pals and enjoy a real summer of fun!
