A: To work with us you need to be 18 years old. You can apply when you are 17 (as long as you turn 18 before the start date of camp) and your application will only allow you to select operational dates when you are 18. If you are unsure if you meet the criteria, please contact the office.
A: Our applications usually become available around early/mid-December. We recommend you apply as soon as possible, as our roles and spaces are limited. However, we will still be reviewing applications throughout the year, should you apply later, your application will still be considered!
A: We have plenty of roles to choose from at camp. We advise you choose a role which you feel would be most suited to you, but most of all, a role which you'll enjoy! On your online application form you will be able to pick two positions that most suit you. For further information regarding our roles at camp, please see our job roles section. To avoid disappointment, please submit an application as soon as possible. If you can’t find the answer you are looking for, please call 01480 497 533.
A: Absolutely! Often, we need more staff for certain weeks as the number of children booked into camp fluctuates from week to week. Ideally, we look for staff to apply for a minimum of a week at Easter and/or three consecutive weeks in the summer (where possible), please still apply selecting the dates that you are available. Typically, the earlier weeks in the season are busier than the later weeks, but this varies from camp to camp. Our free training courses are still available to you and you are expected to undertake Induction Training.
A: Once you have applied, we will review your application and let you know via email (please check your Junk/Spam) if you have been successful or not. We review applications daily and we hope to respond to your application within 7-10 working days! If you are successful with your application, you will then move on to the next stages of our Safer recruitment process, which is likely to be a telephone or video interview depending on the role applied for. The Virtual Assessment Event will be the next stage for successful applicants. If you would like to learn more about the recruitment process please click here. If you complete and succeed in all these stages, a conditional contract will be offered subject to 2 satisfactory professional references, an Enhanced DBS check and all training required for the role applied for.
A: If can’t make your Senior Video Interview we will work with you to find a more suitable date/time. Please contact your recruiter via email or call the office on 01480 497 533. If you cannot attend a Senior Video Interview at all, your application will be placed on hold, or you may be offered the opportunity to interview for a general role.
A: If the preferred dates you submit for a Virtual Assessment Event are fully booked, we will call or email you to discuss an alternative day. If you are unable to attend an alternative date, we will not be able to process your application further and you will be placed on hold. If a space becomes available on your initial preferred dates, we will call you, similarly, if your availability changes please call the office. These are virtually held via Zoom. We have varied dates and times available, so we hope there are a few you are able to attend.
A: No. For safer recruitment reasons there are specific details we require that your CV may not cover, so you must complete an online application form to be considered for a job with Barracudas.
A: No, there is no accommodation available for staff. Our camps operate from 08:00 – 18:00 and shifts vary between these times. You will need to live locally and be able to travel to the camp daily.
A: We currently have over 40+ camp locations. Many of our camps are in the counties that border the M25. For full details, please visit the camps page.
A: On your application form you will be able to pick three locations and two job roles to apply for. If you can get to any other locations, please call us to discuss.
A: The more flexible you are with your locations and dates, the greater the chance of being offered a position with Barracudas. Even after you have been placed on hold! Sometimes the number of roles available at each camp can change as the number of bookings increase. We will be in contact with you if you have been put on hold and a role becomes available. We review this regularly, however, you’re welcome to contact us for an update!
A: As we must complete background checks with original identification, it is advisable to apply once you are in the UK.
If you successfully receive a contract with Barracudas, you must be able to provide us with UK bank details ahead of starting work to receive your wages.
For your background checks you will need to provide Barracudas with letter of good conduct from any country that you have lived in for longer than 6 months, once we have received this, we will need to process an enhanced DBS in your UK address. Please see the below link with information how to obtain an oversees check.

If you are not a UK national, you must ensure you have any relevant working permits and visas that demonstrate your eligibility to work in the UK. We must receive original copies of any such documents. We are unable to provide anyone a Visa to work in the UK.
It should also be noted that as we run day camps only, staff are required to provide their own accommodation.
A: Yes. You must have a valid DBS certificate at an Enhanced level issued through Barracudas in the last 3 years or have an Enhanced DBS that is signed up to the Update Service (we must see the original certificate). If you are new to Barracudas, a DBS check will be processed after you have attended a Virtual Assessment Event and you have signed your contract. If you are a returning member of staff this will be processed after you have signed your contract. If you are a senior member of staff your DBS will be processed once you’ve had your Senior Interview, and your contract is signed. The cost for an Enhanced DBS check is £58. This will be deducted from your wages.
To carry out these checks, we need various forms of identification and proof of current address. The full process will be explained to you by a member of the Compliance team if you need a DBS processed. All staff must also show their photographic identification over the Camps set up weekend.
We will not discriminate against any applicant who may have a conviction. If you have a conviction or caution, this must be declared when you apply. We will consider its relevance to the role you have applied for in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. If you have any questions regarding a conviction, please call us and a member of the Compliance team will be happy to discuss this with you in confidence.
If you have lived outside of the UK for more than 6 months, you will also be required to provide Barracudas with a certificate of good conduct from the relevant country.
We also ask you for two professional referees whom we will contact by email, one of which must be within 3 years. If you are a returning member of staff, we only need one new reference annually. They must know you on a professional or academic basis and cannot be a family member or a friend, unless you have been directly employed by them, i.e. babysitting. They cannot be a Barracudas staff member, for example your Camp Manager from a previous season. If you are struggling to provide a new referee as a last resort you can provide the details of one you have used previously if your circumstances haven’t changed, and the referee is still relevant.
Barracudas is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Barracudas is committed to equal opportunities in employment and all roles are subject to enhanced DBS and relevant employment checks.
